Understanding the Police
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is a complex organization that serves the City of Ottawa in many ways. Most people will be familiar with the 9-1-1 emergency call, but the police can help in non-emergency situations as well. You should never call 9-1-1 unless an emergency or a crime in progress is taking place.

The OPS is also very active in the community with many community partnerships and resources for parents, teens and children. They are also involved in crime prevention education and activities that help make Ottawa a safer city.
