How to work through problems with neighbours
Although By-Law and the police are sometimes needed to help solve issues in the community, there are steps that individuals can take on their own to deal with problems before they get too serious. Many problems can be solved between neighbours before involving anyone else, and this can lead to more positive relationships being built. If you have a problem with a neighbour, consider these steps:
- Approach them and share your concerns. They might not even realize what effect their behaviour or actions are having on their neighbours.
- If this does not work, consider a mediation or conflict resolution service. Having a mediator step in can help you find a solution to your problem with your neighbour, and maintain a good relationship throughout.
The Winnipeg Committee for Safety offers an excellent conflict resolution guide that can help you resolve issues with your neighbours.
