It is illegal to dump garbage, appliances or snow in private parking lots, on the sides of streets or rural roads, or in vacant lots. Fines for littering are a minimum of $500.
If you dump litter, garbage or snow on your own property, By-Law staff will ask you to clean it up. If you refuse, the City of Ottawa may do the cleanup and charge you for it, according to the Property Standards By-Law.
