Research shows that community-based approaches to crime prevention can have a much greater impact on criminal behaviour than enforcement alone.

When residents, police, Ottawa Community Housing, social service agencies and other stakeholders work together and take pride in their efforts, there is great potential for long-term, sustainable solutions.

Since 2006, Crime Prevention Ottawa has provided support to neighbourhood projects that respond to local community safety needs and issues.

Our team sits on a wide range of neighbourhood-focused committees across Ottawa. In the past, we have worked with groups such as Lowertown, Our Home; Together for Vanier; Vision Jasmine and Cedarwood.

We tailor our involvement depending on a community’s specific needs through any combination of the following:

  • Presentations and discussions to help identify a particular issue
  • Ongoing technical support through research and active involvement
  • Funding to help a community take action to address a problem
